Why I Love My Countertops So Much
Hi friends!
I’ve gotten so many questions about what type of countertops we chose for our kitchen, that I decided I should make a whole blog post about it! The short answer is Caesarstone. Caesarstone is the brand, and they make GORGEOUS quartz surfaces. We used Caesarstone for our countertops in the kitchen, downstairs kitchenette and laundry room. Before we even started the renovation, I knew I wanted to go with quartz, because it is durable, easy to clean and Caesarstone has the BEST colour options! Let me tell you more on those points:
Durable
Did you know that quartz countertops are the hardest stone surfaces?? A man made stone, it’s harder, stronger and safer than marble, granite and other natural stones. Why should you care about this? It means you don’t have to worry about chipping your countertops! Especially if you have an island with an overhang for barstools, you never want to risk having chipped edges. With quartz, you don’t have to worry. It’s not indestructible though, so you still need to use cutting boards! An added bonus is that quartz is environmentally friendly! It’s certified for its durability and low maintenance, supporting a healthier environment and better use of material resources. It was another easy eco-choice we were able to make for the renovation!
Easy to Clean
This is my favourite part, since I am all about making life easier! Since quartz is nonporous, it’s also scratch and stain resistant. This means no panicking when you spill red wine or accidentally drag a metal pot across the counter. Any spots or marks will come off! Caesarstone cleans with simple soap and water, and you NEVER need to seal it. A lot of other natural stones will need to be sealed multiple times over their lifetime - that’s a lot of work and extra money! Just like any surface, you do have to clean it regularly - but that cleaning is EASY. Other surfaces like marble will stain instantly with a coffee ring and can be really hard to remove. For daily care, clean the surface using mild, non-abrasive dish soap and water. Rinse with warm water after use and dry with soft cloth or paper towel.
Aesthetic
There are SO MANY colours to choose from with Caesarstone, that it actually took me a while to decide, and I’m pretty decisive! They have literally everything, from classic, plain white to colours that really look like natural marble or granite - so you can get the look but with the durability! I ended up choosing 5110 Alpine Mist for all of our countertops. It’s a gray with a light white veining, which I thought was really special, since you normally see a white with gray veining. It really warmed up our all-white kitchen but still fits the aesthetic of the rest of the house. I couldn’t be happier with the choice!
Something you may not know if you haven’t done a kitchen renovation before, is that you also need a fabrication. Caesarstone is the brand of countertop, but another company cuts it to fit your layout and does the actual installation. We worked with Quartz Co Surfaces and had a GREAT experience! They were so friendly, responsive and answered any questions we had. Install was super seamless and all our countertops look FLAWLESS!
