A Laundry Room Reno With Personality
Hi there!
I’m so excited I get to give you a few more details on the laundry room. Having lived in condos for the better part of the last 30 years, having a laundry ROOM is such a luxury for me. It was important to me to include this space in our renovation design, and not just leave it as an afterthought because it’s in the basement. There were 3 things I focused on when designing the laundry room: Function, Cohesion and FUN!
Function
Definitely the most important aspect of designing this space was making sure it was functional for our needs. I wanted a big sink and lots of storage that lets me tuck everything away out of sight. I love the look of the sink in the middle, with the machines on either end. It’s symmetrical but practical. I also wanted a lot of counter space to fold, so we added a countertop above each machine and added an extra cabinet and countertop on the other side of the room to really maximize the space! Since laundry can get messy, we chose the same Caesarstone we have in the kitchen because it’s easy to clean and durable, and we added a backsplash too to make cleanup easy. Lastly, as much as I don’t like pot lights, they were the only lighting option that made sense in this space. With the lower ceilings and Greg and I being on the taller side, there was no room for a fun light fixture or lamps - and you definitely need a BRIGHT laundry room!
Cohesion
We continued the farmhouse vibe of the rest of the house right into the laundry room. Just because it is in the basement (and even a little bit below!) didn’t mean it couldn’t match the rest of the house. The colour scheme and chrome accents are cohesive with the kitchen and our bathrooms. We used the same IKEA cabinetry as the kitchen and chose chrome hardware from EMTEK. We even got a farmhouse sink like the kitchen! I love when every little space in the entire house flows!
FUN!
Just because it’s a practical space doesn't mean it can’t be beautiful! I really had fun with the details here. I love any opportunity to play with floor tile, and the laundry room was the perfect space to do that. I used hexagon tiles to make this cute floral pattern and it makes me so much happier when I have to do laundry! I normally go all white, but I was feeling bolder for this room, so added a BIG pop of navy with the cabinetry! I was also so excited to have a space where I could put a wall mounted face, and this chrome one from House of Rohl is SUCH a showpiece in the room.
I hope this inspires you if you’re planning a laundry room reno! Find the source list for all these details below.
