I  was recently part of an amazing event that I wanted to share with all of you and hope that you will also be inspired to participate and have some fun for a great cause. The event is called “Yard Sale for the Cure”. I know I’ve hooked some of you, as soon as I said Yard Sale!

Here is how it went

To help heighten the awareness of the event, the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation invited some people to create the “best yard sale table” and compete for bragging rights. Did they say compete??  It was a yard sale smack down between 8 teams!!! Each team was given an 8 foot of table space to make their own. All of the yard sale items were supplied by 1-800-Got-Junk http://www.1800gotjunk.com/ca_en/On the start of “go”, it was a free for all. Each team sought out their items, priced and displayed them in a way that would tantalize any Sunday yard sale connoisseur. Although, in the end our team of designers and design bloggers didn’t win the challenge, we had great fun trying. I made some new friends, raised some money and helped spread awareness of furthering breast cancer research. That’s what I call a good night! Oh, and I had a little poutine too!

Host your Own Yard Sale!

Host your own yard sale this summer in support of “Yard Sale for the Cure”. At no charge, you can register your yard sale on their web site: http://www.yardsaleforthecure.com. They also offer a $25 kit, to help you spread the word that you are donating to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. It includes a t-shirt, a big lawn sign, pink ribbons and a poster to advertise your sale. How fun does that sound?

Shop at a Sale!!

If you aren’t able to throw your own yard sale, you can have fun shopping at one! Log onto http://www.yardsaleforthecure.comto get information of registered yard sales happening in your area.

The Big Day!

On May 26th, 2012 more than 300 yard sales will be taking place across Ontario and Atlantic Canada! If you wish to participate there is still time for you and your neighborhood to get organized. No pressure though, you can have your yard sale any day this summer. If you live in Toronto area, be sure to check out the Massive Yard sale at Trinity- Bellwoods Park and Kew Gardens!! That’s where the 1-800-Got-Junk are bringing multiple tractor trailers full of stuff to sell!! Woo Hoo!! It will be a jackpot of goodies and 100% of the proceeds go to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation! I plan to help out and maybe do a little shopping on the side, too!
